Our photos look best when viewed on a properly calibrated monitor. While not a true calibration, a quick and easy way to get close is to adjust your monitor until you can see all eleven (11) distinct shades of gray in the image below.

A somewhat low level oblique view of some of Cleveland's many steel mills with downtown Cleveland in the background.

March 16-22, 2015

"Cleveland Steelers??"

Ok - for many football fans (in at least two cities...) that title is not even remotely funny... But, the fact of the matter is, Cleveland has a very long history of producing steel that continues to this day.

Although the steel mills shown here are not exactly "pretty" subjects, the early morning light does help make this scene better.

This photo was taken a little earlier in the day than we normally would fly because there happened to be a Cleveland Browns home game that day. We had to fly our assignment and get out of that airspace before a temporary flight restriction ("TFR") went into effect. TFR's exist for all major sporting events and can pop up for many other security and safety reasons.

An aerial view of a farmer's field, apparently wishing pilots a happy new year!

March 9-15, 2015

"New(ish) Year Greeting"

Even though it was the end of February, this farmer was apparently still celebrating the New Year.

Do you have a work of art or a project that might look awesome from the air? Perhaps a tiling project in a field or a corn maze? Give us a call and let us capture it for you for posterity!

We fly all year - so whether your project is taking place now or you'd like to wait until summer (or even fall), just let us know and we'll take care of you.

An aerial view of a barge coming down an icy Ohio River in East Liverpool, Ohio.

March 2-8, 2015

"Barging Through"

Frigid temperatures and a little bit of ice on the river is not enough to stop the shipping industry here in the midwest. (Though, the ice did temporarily trap a ship on Lake Erie earlier last week before Canadian and U.S. Coast Guard ice breakers eventually broke it free...)

A clearly visible channel in an otherwise frozen Ohio River allows barges such as the one seen here in the distance to get their cargo to their intended destinations.

This aerial scene was photographed last week as we flew across the Ohio River near East Liverpool, Ohio.

An aerial view of fire damage at a large greenhouse operation near Oberlin, Ohio.

Febuary 23 - March 1, 2015

"Fire Damage"

About 2 years ago, Green Circle Growers in Oberlin, Ohio, suffered a large fire that completely destroyed some of their greenhouses and damaged several more.

We happened to fly by a few days later and saw that the clean up operation was already underway. Though the fire caused significant damage, the greenhouses were able to keep operating and are back to full capacity now.

According to its web site, Green Circle Growers is one of the largest operations in the midwest, supplying plants to major retailers such as Home Depot, Sam's Club, and Giant Eagle.

A close up view of strange ice patterns from high above a reservoir near Alliance, Ohio.

Febuary 16-22, 2015

"Ice Patterns"

Back to the reality that is northern Ohio this week - snow, cold, and ice!

Flying over frozen lakes and reservoirs such as this one near Alliance, Ohio, gives us an interesting view of the ice patterns that you just can't see from the ground.

In related news, it was reported this week that Lake Erie is very near to being 100% covered in ice after the latest blast of cold weather. We think another trip to Florida is in order...

An aerial view of the Daytona International Speedway and airport in Daytona Beach, FL.

Febuary 9-15, 2015

"Think Warm"

After yet another arctic blast here in the midwest, we're trying to think about warmer places.

Last spring, we had the opportunity to string together enough photo sites to make it all the way down to Florida. Along the way, we passed this site - the Daytona International Speedway.

February in Daytona is a race fan's dream - the month is full of on track action. The Rolex 24 hour endurance sports car race takes place at the beginning of the month, followed by "speed weeks" and the world famous Daytona 500 NASCAR race which takes place next weekend (February 22) and kicks off the stock car racing season.

An aerial view of a thin band of lake effect snow near Cleveland, Ohio.

Febuary 2-8, 2015

"Snow Bands"

When you live next to one of the Great Lakes, it can snow at any time, even when it's nice and sunny all around you.

We had to fly around this small band of lake effect snow in order to get to a photo site recently. Fortunately, there were sunny skies at our home airport (in Medina, Ohio), and the site we needed to photograph near Cleveland.

The snow in this photo was falling on the Shaker Heights neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland. Normally, we would have a nice view of downtown from this area.

A close up overhead view of a flock of seagulls flying above a frozen body of water near a water treatment plant in Fremont, Ohio.

January 26 - Febuary 1, 2015

"Big Game Party?"

This scene is quite the opposite of the "Solitude" photo we posted last December of a lonely tree in a snowy field.

Perhaps this huge flock of seagulls (which we assume are no relation to the band of the same name...) was getting together near a break in the ice by a nearby water treatment plant in preparation to cheer for their distant cousins - the Seahawks - in this weekend's "Big Game"?

(OK - yes - we agree. That was a stretch... There is a slight chance that the cold weather is affecting our thinking lately... we'll try to do better next week...)

A winter aerial photograph of a nearly frozen Lake Erie near Sandusky and Cedar Point, OH.

January 19-25, 2015

"Great Frozen Lake"

Being the most shallow of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie tends to freeze over more than the other lakes.

This recent photo shows an almost solid ice sheet covering the lake. We aren't sure if the narrow lane of water is a crack in the ice that opened up or if it was created by a ship traveling through the area.

This photo was taken near Sandusky, Ohio. If you look closely on the right side of the photo, you can see the frozen roller coasters of Cedar Point. The dark patches near the horizon in the center and right-center of the frame are the Lake Erie Islands.

A winter aerial view of the Polaris and Interstate 71 interchange on the north side of Columbus, Ohio.

January 12-18, 2015

"Polaris Revisited"

Last July, when things were nice and warm and green, we featured this interchange on the north side of Columbus, Ohio. The starburst pattern is still easily visible, but now the Polaris and I-71 area looks more like the north pole than the north star for which it is named.

From our vantage point, it doesn't appear that the weather is a major deterrent to people who work or shop in this area. Kudos to ODOT for keeping the roadways nice and clear for everyone's safety down there!

An aerial view of some snow-covered pine trees and bare deciduous trees somewhere in northeastern Ohio.

January 1-11, 2015 Happy New Year!

"Happy 2015!"

Many areas of Ohio did not have a white Christmas, but Mother Nature has made up for it recently, covering fields, roads, trees, and everything else with a nice layer of snow.

These snowy trees were seen outside of our window while flying to a site near Youngstown, Ohio.
